ORIGINS
Using the backstreets of Kingston in Jamaica as inspiration. I found out about how reggae was sold to people in Jamaica, including the ‘Swing-A-Ling’ van driven by Charlie Ace as a mobile record shop. The exterior was handcrafted and the van looks almost mashed together with bits of wood and other scrap. This is what I wanted to convey in the video, made by the people for the people, just like reggae.
The vinyls that were distributed were illegal and scribbled on, inspiration on how to display who worked on the documentary.
I used laser cutting into old peices of wood to create a hand crafted feel, something imperfect yet perminent.
